A front brings periods of heavy northerly rain to the upper South Island today, while an east to southeast flow is forecast to bring periods of heavy rain to Northland tomorrow. Rainfall accumulation in these areas may approach warning amounts, and Heavy Rain Watches are in force. The front is also expected to bring heavy snow to Canterbury High Country areas about and north of Rakaia river until early this afternoon and a Heavy Snow Watch remains in force for this area.
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case these watches are upgraded to a warning, or further areas are added.

Forecast: A period of snow to 400 metres, with heavy falls above 500 metres where accumulations may approach warning criteria. Note, Heavy Snow Watch south of Rakaia river has now been lifted.
